Aga Khan Palace

Aga Khan Palace was built in the year 1892 by Sultan Mohammad Shah Aga Khan III in Pune. Since then it is one of the biggest landmark in Indian history. The Aga Khan Palace of Pune was an act of charity by the Sultan who wanted to help the poor in the neighboring areas of Pune who were drastically hit by the famine.

Osho Commune International

The Osho Commune International in Pune strives to fulfill Osho's vision of 'Zorba the Buddha'. Innumerable visitors come to the Osho Commune International for either short visits or several months' attendance: to participate in daily meditation or the exhaustive programs of Osho Multiversity or contribute practically.

Kasturba Samadhi

Kasturba Samadhi is located within the serene locality of Aga Khan Palace in Pune. It is widely known as Kasturba Gandhi Memorial and is built in memory of Mahatama Gandhi's wife Kasturba Gandhi who breathed her last in this palace.

Shivneri Fort

Shivneri Fort is famous for being the birthplace of great Shivaji. Shivaji was the famous ruler of Maharashtra. Shivneri Fort in Pune is a well known historical military fortification. Shivaji spent his childhood in the fort and took lessons of all his military training here. Shivneri Fort is located approximately 105 kilometer far from Pune. Shaniwar Wada is one of the most popular monuments in Pune. In 1729 Peshwa Baji Rao commissioned the building of Shaniwar Wada. Shaniwar Wada has great fountains, courtyards, fruits, trees, offices audience halls and substantial residential areas as its attractions.

Saras bagh

Saras Bagh of Pune is a beautiful and well-maintained garden area in Pune. Saras Bagh of Pune is a site of devotion as well as a popular hang-out for the residents of Pune. In the past, however, the lush green lawns served as a garbage dumping ground for the British.

The Empress Garden

The Empress Garden lies adjacent to the Pune Solapur Road. This is a rather large garden, covering an area of about 59 acres. Empress Garden of Pune is basically a botanical park, which is located near the Pune Race course. Here there are several varieties of fruit and flower bearing trees. People often turn up in large numbers for a picnic at the Empress Garden of Pune.

Peshwa Udyan

Peshwa Udyan of Pune is one of the most famous garden areas of the city of Pune. It is maintained by the Pune Municipal Corporation. Apart from the Peshwa Udyan Zoo within the premises of the gardens, there are also provisions for some animal rides and boating. These arrangements are undertaken by the government.

Omkareshwar Temple

Omkareshwar temple of Pune is a 17th century Partvati temple, known for its endurance during the floods of Panshet in 1962. The Omkareshwar temple is known for its extraordinary construct and its extravagant style.

Chaturshringi Temple

Like most of the temple in Pune, Chaturshringi temple also has its own tale that dates back to many centuries from now. Legend says that Goddess Chaturshringi bade a merchant in Pune to built a temple for her. The merchant who was a staunch believer of the Devi, used to visit the temple of the Goddess during his visit to other places.

Pataleshwar Cave Temple

Pataleshwar cave temple of Pune, situated just across the river on the Jungli Maharaj Road, is a heritage site for Pune with a long history dating back to the 8th century AD. A remarkable feature of the Pataleshwar cave temple of Pune is that it bears resemblance with the massive rock-cut temples of Ellora.

Tourist Destinations Near Pune

Matheran

The distance from Matheran to Pune is around 118 km. It is the closest hill station to the city of Mumbai. It takes around two hours to reach Matheran from Pune.

Mahabaleshwar

It is the biggest hill station in the Sahyadri mountain range. The distance from Pune is around 115 km. It houses a number of tourist attractions such as Hunter Point, Arthur's Seat, Tiger Falls and Echo Point. It takes around two hours by road from Pune to reach Mahabaleshwar.

Malshej Ghat

Malshej Ghat is a popular hill station. It lies in the middle of the Sahyadri mountain range. The place is a top tourist draw for the scenic waterfalls and surroundings. The distance from Pune is around 126 km and it takes 2-3 hours to reach there.

Each of these temples has its own individual legend and history, as distinct from each other as the murtis in each temple. The form of each murti of Ganesha and His trunk are distinct from one another. Some of these murtis are called Swayambhu effigies, or the self-existent in Sanskrit. This is to indicate that no human created these murtis, they were found completely formed by nature.

Ballaleshwar, Pali

This Ballaleshwar temple is the only temple of Ganesh, famous by the name of his devotee. The temple is located in the toen of Pali, off the Mumbai-Pune highway, about 11 km before Nagothane on Mumbai-Goa highway.

Chintamani, Theur

Ganesh as Chintamani is a god who brings peace of mind & drives away all the perplexities of the mind. Here the idol of Ganesha has a left trunk with carbuncle and diamonds as its eyes.

Girijatmaj, Lenyadri

Girijatmaj Vinayak refers to the Ganesh as the son of Parvati.This is the only Ashtavinayaka temple that is build on a mountain and is set in a Buddhist cave temple.

Mahaganapati, Ranjangoan

The Mahaganapati at Ranjangoan is one of the most powerful representations of Lord Ganesh. Here Shiva is believed to have worshipped Ganesha before fighting the demon Tripurasura. The Ganesha idol here faces the east, is seated cross-legged with a broad forehead, with its trunk pointing to the left.

Moreshwar, Morgoan

This Moreshwar temple is situated along the Karha River in the Morgaon village. It is the most important of all the eight Ashtavinayak temples and has four gates. This idol has its trunk turned to the left and a cobra poised over it to protect it.

Siddhivinayaka, Siddtek

It is believed that it was here on the Siddhtek Mountain, that Vishnu acquired Siddhi. The temple is situated off the Pune-Solapur highway about 48 km from the town of Srigonda in Ahmadnagar district. The temple is located just next to Bhima River.

Varad Vinayak, Mahad

Ganesh as Varad Vinayak fulfills all the dreams and desires plus grants all the boons. This temple is located three kilometers off the Pune-Mumbai highway near Khopoli (80 km from Pune) and is thus closest to Mumbai city.

Vigneshwar, Ozhar

Lord Ganesha at Ozhar is known as Vigneshwara or the remover of all obstacles which he achieved by vanquishing the demon Vighnasura.
